What Substance Makes Ice Melt the Fastest? Roads have to be cleared of ice during winter months, and most municipalities use salt on the roadways. Is there a cheaper, less corrosive alternative to salt? Sannvika Kulkarni's science research project investigated this question. She found that calcium chloride is a more effective de-icing agent than salt. It melts ice faster and at lower temperatures. Calcium chloride is also less corrosive to vehicles and the environment. Sannvika's research could help make roads safer and more environmentally friendly. #science #research #deicing #calciumchloride
